WHAT IT'S ABOUT:

Zinhle Malinga is a hard working modern woman with strong traditional values who knows what she deserves, and believes she knows what kind of man she needs in order to be happy. She’s not willing to play games and waste time - she wants to take the next step in her life and get married.

WHAT WE THOUGHT:

Love Lives Here follows the life of author Zinhle Malinga - A strong, independent, modern woman, Zinhle (played by Thando Thabethe) knows what she wants – the perfect man, the perfect life, and ultimately, the perfect proposal.

She soon comes to find that, unlike the fairytale romances in the books she writes, stumbling upon your prince charming in the real world is not that simple.

After being cheated on by her boyfriend, now heartbroken and in need of a shoulder to cry on, the shy, quirky writer finds love in the arms of hunky photographer Nkosinathi (played by Lungile Radu), who teaches her that love is anything but perfect.

Off the bat, I must admit that I used to be a sucker for a good romcom. But, with the same formula being put into practice over and over through the years, the predictability of romance movies is what usually keeps me away these days.

Unfortunately, Love Lives Here subscribed to the old Hollywood "boy meets girl" formula, which meant that I could usually see those plot twists coming before they hit the screen.

One thing that does stand out, however, is the steamy sex scenes. I generally find that local movies tend to be a little more conservative when it comes to bedroom scenes, but this film had a few people feeling a bit hot under the collar. Let's just say it's not something you want to watch with your mother.

The comedy end of the film was held up by Motlatsi Mafatshe who takes on the role of Duke – a known playboy who has no trouble scoring with the ladies due to his rather large … package.

As weirded out as I was by Duke's persona (he gives off creepy-uncle-who-had-too-much-to-drink vibes), his character drummed up a few laughs in the cinema.

If you're looking to check out a local film and perhaps make a date out of it, then this one could be for you.
