Storks

What it's about:

Storks deliver babies… or at least they used to. Now, they deliver packages for a global internet giant. Junior, the company’s top delivery stork, is about to be promoted when he accidentally activates the Baby Making Machine, producing an adorable and wholly unauthorised baby girl. Desperate to deliver this bundle of trouble before the boss gets wise, Junior and his friend Tulip, the only human on Stork Mountain, race to make their first ever baby drop in a wild and revealing journey that could make more than one family whole and restore the storks’ true mission in the world.

What we thought:

I’m a sucker for a good animation and well, Storks was pretty average at best.

We all know the old tale of how storks used to deliver perfect babies wrapped in a nappy and for most parents it’s a great out for the dreaded ‘where do babies come from?’ question.

And while there’s a nostalgic feeling of childhood memories and imagination, there’s no real spark or moment that makes you think ‘I’m definitely watching this again!’

Of course, the storyline of Junior (Andy Samberg) teaming up with orphaned Tulip (Katie Crown) to secretly deliver a baby will tug at your heart strings but there isn’t anything deeply moving or engaging about the characters.

Storks is purely a kiddie film. Sure the use of jokes, gags and comedic sketches will crack a smile on an adult’s face but this has been filmed and written purely to entertain a younger audience and quite rightly so.

It’s positive, full of adventure, introduces likable characters (even the ‘bad guys’) and succeeds in finding the good out of every situation.

The visuals and sound are what makes this flick a success. In that it is meant for children under the age of 10, the animation manages to be coloured with action and adventure but remains light enough not to completely scare your child.

That being said and keeping in mind that I am 24 years old, Storks is a light-hearted and positive flick that was a pleasure to watch.

Would I pay to watch it on the big screen, no but that doesn’t stop me from making some popcorn and curling up on the couch with my nieces to have a laugh.
