The Fate of the Furious

OUR RATING

3/5 Stars

WHAT IT'S ABOUT:

Now that Dom and Letty are on their honeymoon, Brian and Mia have retired from the game—and the rest of the crew has been exonerated—the globetrotting team has found a semblance of a normal life. But, when a mysterious woman seduces Dom into the world of crime he can’t seem to escape and into the betrayal of those closest to him, the team will face trials that will test them as never before.

WHAT WE THOUGHT:

You know that feeling when someone tells you a story that starts out really boring, but then unexpectedly it takes a turn and all of a sudden you’re clinging to their every word.

That’s the best way to describe The Fate of the Furious. It’s a bit like an old engine that needs a few jump starts before it powers up and kicks into gear.

The 8th instalment of The Fast and the Furious is definitely still fierce and undoubtedly still fun to watch.

But let’s be honest it’s not a classic and definitely not trying to be anything it’s not – it’s just a flick about fast cars, sexy people and lots of explosions.

If you go in expecting anything more than that you will be very disappointed. But if you’re looking for some epic action, destruction and hardcore badassery – then you’re in for a fantastic ride!

The one thing that makes this instalment stand out from the rest is that the female cast really take the wheel and drive this beast to success.

Charlize Theron as the villainous Cipher doesn’t disappoint. Like we saw in the recent Snow White films, the South African born actress is the queen of mean! She brings with her a sophisticated and well-balanced villain that totally steals the show.

Although Charlize doesn’t get behind the wheel in the film, the 41-year-old is no stranger to taking on epic driving roles like we saw in The Italian Job and Mad Max: Fury Road. Her portrayal of Cipher delivers one of the toughest baddies the franchise has ever delivered.

Balance that with a hilarious cameo by British actress Helen Mirren in the role of Magdalene Shaw and you have cinematic gold. Mirren might only be on screen for a few minutes but it’s definitely one of the most memorable in the flick.

Nathalie Emmanuel as Ramsey and Michelle Rodriguez as Letty roundup the female cast that really pumps up the action and totally takes over from the boys.

The cars are fast, the cast is steamy and The Fate of the Furious is one sweet ride! Enjoy!
