The production quality on the 18-year-old's album confirms she's no mere teen pop singer. And shows why she's already picked up two Latin Grammy awards.

Yet the catchy pop tunes aren't as impressive when she switches from Spanish to English, stumbling a little through a few pronunciations. Belinda's attempt to make her music more accessible in North America might not be as successful as in her native Mexico, but she needn't worry too much. Whether in English or Spanish, the mature melodies carry Utopia to a musical level rivaling the US pop princesses.

Belinda is Latin America's answer to Hilary Duff. The Mexican child star is the perfect Mr. Potato Head – musically of course. Her music is pieced together with a bit of Shakira's Latin flair, Vanessa Carlton's indie soft-rock, Jessica Simpson's dance-pop and Britney Spears' electro-pop.
