Gereformeerde Blues Band - Eet Kreef

Eet Kreef, the defining album of the Gereformeerde Blue Band, will always remain a classic. This CD re-release is a must have for all SA rock and Kerkorrel fans.

This 2002 re-release of the defining album of the Gereformeerde Blues Band is a must-have. For both the die-hard Johanness Kerkorrel and GRB fan, and for anyone with a sense of South African, and Afrikaans music history.

It was originally released in the 80s, around the same time that Kerkorrel was involved with the significant (for both political and musical reasons) Voelvry Tour with musicians like Koos Kombuis and Bernoldus Niemand.

Some of the songs - like "Sit dit Af" or "Ossewa" - may seem simple rock 'n roll tunes to the uninitiated. But listen to the lyrics. It's satirical political commentary set to sing along foot tapping rock 'n roll - a wonderful mixture of rock 'n roll songs, ballads, emotive and biting lyrics and intense music. There's something in the songs that always strikes a chord.

Also included on the CD, "Ry" - a solo Kerkorrel track.

- Melissa de Kock

A rerelease with one new track ("Ry", off the voelvry compilation) of this classic and highly influencial SA Alternatiewe rock band.

Foul language makes this album unlistenable I am sorry, but I do not accept profane language on an album. Yes, they were right to criticise the old government, but they could have done it in a more civilised way. No thanks, but albums like this make me ashamed to admit that I am Afrikaans speaking.
