Gordon's Suitcase - Good Girls Like Good Music

2007-06-08 18:51
Though the title is somewhat creepy, this CD is done by musical collaborators calling themselves Gordon's Suitcase and is prettily packed, with interesting cover artwork by Lionel Smit. The cover implies a dark psychological twists and mystery.

The artwork is far more daring than the actual music, which sounds more like a jam by accomplished musicians than a carefully composed artwork. What they're trying to sell here is some kind of cool, and you can see this colab working pretty well as a live band at a function or as the soundtrack to a classy restaurant or bar. They'd certainly be a healthy alternative to many similar setups. You can't argue with the skills of someone like Greg Georgiades, but altogether, they're stylish more than they're moving and soothing rather than entertaining.

Women24.com recently used their music in their video for Joburg's Winter Fashion Week. Check out the video.

There's always a market for the smoother side of jazz. Whether you're that market - or not - will depend whether you actively listen to your music collection, or just put it on to wallpaper out a stressful world.
