Songs About Girls - Will.I.Am

Will.I.Am once again unites the pop, hip hop, funk and dance genres to produce a guaranteed party starter that'll no doubt hijack radio airwaves. Teens the world over will be shaking their humps in front of mirrors and club hopers popping and locking. But fans from way back when Behind the Front was released (ok, so 1998 isn't THAT far-off in the past) might be a bit surprised at the heavy dance influence on the new album. Simply put, the beats are phat. But the lyrics are up to shite.
Yes, we understand that Songs About Girls is partly autobiographical about love, making up, breaking up and sexing up, but what happened to the intelligent lyrics, original themes, crossing boundaries, breaking down stereotypes, educating a population? Will.I.Am? Psssh, more like Will.He.Was…

Mediocre lyrics aside, Songs About Girls still has that fun, energizing element we've come to expect from Will.I.Am, and that's its saving grace.

The title of Will.I.Am's third studio album cannot possibly be more descriptive. It's literally Songs About Girls. According to the rapper/producer/lyricist/fashion designer, it also to some extent documents a seven-year relationship he once had. And in case you're wondering, yes, it's also inspired by Maroon 5's Songs About Jane.
