The Black Hotels - Beautiful Mornings (EP)

But by night, John heads up The Black Hotels. An 'alternative' rock band who sound like one half of Editors, mixed up with Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, with a side helping of Interpol. A band who sound far tighter than the two short years they've been together. Beautiful Mornings is their debut EP.

It includes the radio friendly hits "Natalie" and "Beautiful Mornings", and is so infectious I loaded it into my iPod's 'On The Go' playlist six times in a row. With lyrics like "She talks like Joan Of Arc, walks like Halle Berry, and on Friday she goes swimming", you can't help but fall in love with this unpretentious Joburg band. Simple, brilliant and to the point, Beautiful Mornings is an EP that demands a full-length follow up - as soon as possible.

John Boyd lives in Roosevelt Park. He buys groceries from the Pick N Pay and used to be the piano tinkler in The Parlotones before they made it all famous. He is unassuming, and a down to earth kinda guy. He looks normal by day.
