Great Muslim artists - an Eid playlist

As people across the world celebrate Eid, we look at a few Muslim artists who have made homes for themselves on international charts. Here's a short playlist of some famous Muslim recording artists.

Sami Yusuf - Born in Tehran, Sami was raised in England, and is a multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter.

Akon  - Of Senegalese descent, Aliaune Damala Bouga Time Puru Nacka Lu Lu Lu Badara Akon Thiam was raised in a musical family in the US. "Oh Africa" was released as a charity single with Keri Hilson.

Mos Def - Musician, activist and actor, Dante Terrell Smith started his musical career in 1994, and has since received acclaim for his acting skills, too.

Nas - Regarded as a major figure in hip hop, Nas famously feuded with Jay-Z, before reconciling and eventually forming an acclaimed collaboration with Damian Marley.

Yusuf Islam - Once known as Cat Stevens, he famously converted to Islam in 1977, shortly thereafter leaving his music career for philanthropic work in Muslim communities.
