Every South African knows the work of Taliep Petersen, whose 1987 collaboration with David Kramer, a refresh of the musical District Six, spread a very human anti-Apartheid message not only in South Africa but also overseas. Their latest project Ghoema is currently running in theatres. Get some idea of the extent of their collaboration on David Kramer's website

Petersen recently released a solo album of his songs, Deur Dik en Dun. His death at the hands of gunmen, who killed him on Saturday night, has some as a shock to South Africans, and also to David Kramer, who is a close personal friend. Other tributes have poured in from all over South Africa and the world.

Although the killers did rob Petersen, the usual speculations about the reasons for his death have begun.
