Dear Editor,

Retraction of published information

In your edition of Sunday World of 11th February 2007, you published an article under the heading 'Lebo had my twins'. The information in this article is not true and I would appreciate it if you could retract it formally.

It is true that an article was published in the Sunday World in which I gave out that I had a close relationship with the late Lebo before her demise but I subsequently made a public announcement declaring that this was merely a publicity stunt and not true. Both the so-called relationship and my denial afterwards was published and discussed widely in and on the media. I cannot be blamed for believing that the supposed relationship was seen to be a farce and my subsequent denial was common knowledge. The facts of this article are that I was contacted by a journalist on on Saturday 10th February 2007 and we had an informal conversation. Certainly the nature of the discourse was not serious. My so-called relationship with Lebo was brought up and then I made the facetious remarks about the supposed pregnancy. Taking the history of the case into consideration I did not think for a minute that such nonsense would be believed and taken for the truth.

I never had any sort of relationship with the late Lebo and I sincerely regret the hardship my initial behaviour and such irresponsible rumours must be causing her parents and other family. I certainly only have repect and admiration for the late Lebo. She achieved in her short life what other artists only dream of.

I am currently trying to establish her parents' contact numbers so that I can apologise to them personally. If you can assist me in this I will be grateful.

Yours faithfully

Chris de Beer
