PODCAST: Rian Malan - PODCAST: Rian Malan

2006-07-14 15:36

Rian Malan is an icon of South African culture. In the 80s, he represented free speech, yet fitted into neither the straight "Struggle" ethic, nor into the conservative canon of journalists who just shut up and toed the government line. He explored Afrikanerdom for an English audience, along with others giving depth to the way his readers understood it.

And then at a time when life had lost its lustre, he found music, and has just released his first original album, aptly titled Alien Inboorling. Hear what he has to say about the album, Aids, Voortrekkers, love, and so much more.
