We Heard WHAT!?

Pharrel outgrows his skin
Pharrell Williams is splashing out hundreds of thousands of dollars - not on a new Bentley or designer bling - but on new skin, reports Bang Showbiz. Why? It turns out the hip-hop producer has grown bored of all the tattoos he has etched onto his body over the years so has sought the help of a test tube to help him out of his quandary. He has hired an American firm to grow him replacement skin in a laboratory, which they will then stitch over his old permanent markings. Pharrell told MySpace.com: “It’s going to be pricey, but f**k it, it’s worth it. I got fire on my arms, I don’t need fire on my arms! I’m a grown man.” He goes on to explain the rather gory-sounding procedure: “It’s basically like getting a skin graft, but you’re not taking skin from your a** or legs – these guys actually grow the skin for you. First you have to give them a sample of your skin, which they then replicate. Once that’s been done, they sew it on – and it’s seamless.” Tattoo regret? It’s an expensive and painful indulgence, dear readers. Not that the NERD star has learnt his lesson – he just wants a clean canvas to ink all over again. “When it is healed you can go get whatever tattoo you want,” he said. Except fire, of course.

Zola’s manager is stripped down
Zola just can’t seem to avoid controversy. After it was revealed that the kwaito star is expecting a child with the woman who accused him of rape, Sunday World reports that his manager used to be a stripper at a Jozi “gentleman’s club”. Thabile Maphumulo, who manages the Zola 7 presenter and muso and is also rumoured to be in a romantic relationship with the star, used to shake he rump while taking her clothes off at Club Malasha in Randburg before joining the Ghetto Ruff record label. Maphumulo denies she used to tease men for a living. But Malasha’s manager, known only as Baby Boy, confirms she used to work at his joint as a stripper. “I remember her very well. She used to work here and left about a year and half ago. Just like other girls – they all come and go.” Maphumulo however, has conceded that she used to frequent the strip club, not to work, but because it happened to be near to where she lived. “Yes, I used to go there a lot with my male friends,” she admitted. “This was because my house was close to the club, so it was the only place we could go to. Just because I used to go there does not mean I was a stripper.” Maphumulo and Zola reportedly had a screaming match after news of his cheating ways and the resultant pregnancy made headlines. Looks like Zola could be losing a manager and lover all in one go…

Boy-kissing Pete not gay, OK?
Pete Wentz is tired of being the victim of a "gay witch hunt", reports Bang Showbiz. The Fall Out Boy bassist, who is expecting his first child with new wife Ashlee Simpson, insists he is happily married and only interested in women. Pete, who has previously referred to himself as "half gay", told Out magazine: "When I'm going down the street I get called a fag all the time. There's a little bit of a gay witch hunt. I don't know if it's to bust homophobia wide open or get more attention. He does admit, however, that he may have fuelled the rumours when he confessed to having kissed men. "When I said that I make out with dudes, there was a slight sense of sexual rebellion in that. And I probably even made it a bigger deal than it was. The last time I experimented was probably when I was 22. I've always felt this relentless heterosexual drive." Surely the bump his wife Ashlee is now sporting is testament to that, no?

Lily, Lindsay, La-La Land and losing it
Lily Allen is set to record a duet with Lindsay Lohan, says Bang Showbiz. The Brit singer reportedly wants to team up with the Hollywood starlet - who some may remember herself had a brief (and disastrous) spell as a pop star - for a track on her eagerly-awaited second album, tentatively titled Stuck on the Naughty Step. However, the proposed duet, entitled “Wherever We Go”, has not gone down well with some music fans who think it could harm Lily's career. Lily became fast friends with Lindsay and her rumoured girlfriend Samantha Ronson while she was in Los Angeles recording the album. Meanwhile Rolling Stone has reported that Lily has threatened to quit making music if her new album fails to match the success of her debut Alright, Still. She told the magazine, "I'm really scared about what people are going to say. If people hate it, then I'll just try something else.” Looks like all the acclaim and paparazzi exposure has made the young singer a bit paranoid.

Shakira shakes her hips towards a new deal
Shakira is set to sign a $70 million contract with Live Nation, reports Bang Showbiz. The Colombian singer is following in the footsteps of Madonna and Jay-Z by handing over management of recording, merchandising, ticket sales and other services usually handled by separate companies. The deal is expected to be finalised by the end of the year. For the time being, the singer’s recording rights currently belong to Sony BMG’s Epic Records and she still has two more studio albums to deliver – one in English and one in Spanish – as well as a greatest hits collection. Talks have been ongoing for 10 months, sparking speculation the deal could actually be worth much more than initially thought. Jay-Z is believed to have received a staggering $150 million, while Madonna reportedly earned $120 million. Shakira looks like a worthwhile investment as she’s sold 50 million albums worldwide and made over $100 million from her global tour last year. And Shakira looks set to capitalise on her stardom – and slinky hips – to hammer yet another nail into the coffin of the traditional record label system.
