Olympics with a kwaito flavour
Recovering drug addict Kabelo, aka Bouga Luv, has been selected by the South African Sports Confederation Olympics Committee (SASCOC) as an Olympic Ambassador, according to Page 3 Report. The kwaito singer, an avid runner who has completed the Comrades Marathon four times, was chosen to increase awareness for the forthcoming Beijing Olympics. "Kabelo is a great role model for our youth. He has undergone extreme changes in his own life," said President of SASCOC Moss Mashishi. Bouga Luv was notorious for living the kwaito lifestyle of sex, drugs and alcohol. After making his addiction public in 2002 and spending time in rehab, the star has turned his life around, becoming a fitness enthusiast and ordained minister, while still churning out the hits. However, his Black Jack crew member Gurash recently claimed that Kabelo tried to feed him drugs and that his squeaky-clean image is just a front. Strange, then, that Kabelo is now being associated with the Olympic Games, an event that churns out as many headlines about athletes using drugs as their on-field performances.
