"Princess of Africa" gets dissed
Longwe Twala, the son of SA music legend Chicco Twala, has publicly insulted afro-pop icon Yvonne Chaka Chaka, reports the Sunday Sun. According to witnesses Twala - who was kicked out by his father for abusing drugs - apparently swore at Chaka Chaka and embarrassed her at a gala dinner in June in front of other guests. A visibly drunk Twala reportedly grabbed a microphone and shouted that he wanted “Ngifuna umqombothi” (“I want beer”) and proclaimed that Chaka Chaka had no talent and owed her success to his father. But Chaka Chaka says she has forgiven Twala after his mother apologised on his behalf. However, Chaka Chaka’s son, Themba Mhinga, has taken offence to Twala Jr’s behaviour. Ironically Mhinga is in a music group called Zero11 with Twala. But the project was shelved after Chicco and Yvonne complained that it was getting in the way of their sons’ education. But after this debacle it looks as if the project might never pick up again.
