Oppikoppi Rumours
Could it be true? The buzz is that The Pixies are coming to SA. Also bubbling up but, like the Pixies' rumour, being denied, is talk that The Violent Femmes might be there too. Oppikoppi organisers deny it for the time being. What have you heard?

The Finks say farewell
Power pop trio The Finkelstiens have decided to call it a day, after bassist Worm announced his desire for stable employment.

In a recent online interview he stated, “I’ve realised, over the last year or so, that rock ‘n roll isn’t my dream anymore. You’ve really, really got to want this thing, and I just don’t. It’s been such an awesome time as a band and as friends, and I’ll take this experience with me always. My future plans involve getting a normal job down in PE and figuring out what I really want to do. If you can make it down here and you catch me flipping burgers, I’m not giving you any free stuff. That’s how you get fired. Prime Circle, next time you head down this way I’ll be in the front row with my lighter in the air. Just kidding – I don’t have a lighter. To all the friends we made over the years, especially our management and fellow bands: you’ve all been so kind, and I love you all.”

The band has released three albums to date, and have shared the stage with the likes of Metallica, The Rasmus and Simple Plan.

Britney is a fake!
Britney Spears was caught out lip-synching during a 'live' performance. Fans were so upset they started booing her. Britters was performing at the House of Blues in Florida on Saturday night when technical glitches saw her backing CD skip repeatedly, exposing her fake performance.

A source is quoted by gossip website TMZ.com, "It was an ugly scene. The crowd started jeering and heckling her. Britney looked absolutely devastated. When the CD started skipping during the song “Do Somethin”, Britney hid her face and turned her back. Then, when it resolved itself, she turned around with this look on her face like she was going to puke."

Hundreds of fans had queued for hours and spent as much as £250 (R3 484) on a ticket to see Britney’s first live performance in three years.

Britney is not the first star to suffer the embarrassment of being caught miming. Except for the classic Milli Vanilli case, Ashlee Simpson was left stunned during a performance on US comedy show Saturday Night Live in 2004 when the wrong backing track was accidentally played, leaving her mouthing the wrong words.

Fokofpolisiekar not done yet
Contrary to popular belief, (and recent press statements) premier SA Afrikaans Rock act Fokofpolisiekar are set to play a few more shows before going their separate ways.

Lead singer Francois van Coke has already been performing extensively as a solo act, gently numbing the pain of grief-stricken fans throughout SA.

Be sure to catch them at these shows:
9 Aug 2007 - Oppikoppi (Northam)
10 Aug 2007 - Coca-Cola Dome (Johannesburg)
11 Aug 2007 - Velodrome (Bellville)
29 Sep 2007 - OppiAarde (Potchefstroom)

Our only question is this: are they going the way of the Nude Girls? Who released an album called The Fat Lady Sings, but didn't actually disappear. It turned out the Fat Lady would sing anytime the price was right.

Brown Dash, won’t get anywhere in a dash
Ag shame, Brown Dash seems to be having car problem. Or should that be… for lack of a car?

City Press reported this week that his former label TS records has impounded his Mini Cooper after he left the record label earlier this year. The car had been bought in 2004 for Brown Dash by the record label.

TS records- co-owned by popular kwaito star DJ Sbu - seem bitter after Brown Dash and Afro-pop hottie Ntando left under a cloud of controversy. Get over it DJ Sbu, and focus on polishing your Song of the Year SAMA award!

DJ Sbu gets hit by flying bottle
Talking about DJ Sbu, we do hope he is feeling better after the recent incident in Grahamstown. A bottle flew from the crowd and hit DJ Sbu at a concert in the Eastern Cape town.

His manager says it was “accidental”, but reports say he was attacked by an angry fan. Rumour has it Sbu upset fans by arriving more than two hours late for his gig. He also failed to make it up to the crowd, performing only three songs.

News reports say the cut wasn’t serious. We just hope Sbu takes his job a little more seriously in future. Christmas with the Spice Girls
The Spice Girls will get back together to release a Christmas single. Emma Bunton and Geri Haliwell could hardly contain their joy as they emerged from a Brighton recording studio, hugging each other and laughing, last week.

The girls are hoping to grab this year's prestigious UK Christmas number one and are delighted with the track they have chosen.

Mel C is also said to have lay down her vocals for the track at the same studio. The remaining band members Victoria Beckham and Mel B - who are both currently in Los Angeles - will reportedly travel to the UK to record their parts next month.

Last month, it was reported the band had been offered £1 million each to reunite for a Christmas concert after the former bandmates were overheard discussing plans to stage a comeback show during celebrations for Victoria's husband David's 32nd birthday.

Honouring SA music legends
South African music legend Jonas Gwangwa was one of the musicians present at the unveiling of the Pioneering Spirits Walk of Fame in Newtown, Johannesburg, this week.

The inspirational stories of nine music legends have been immortalised in the walkway. Others honoured were Miriam Makeba, Kippie Moeketsi, Basil Coetzee, Winston Mankunku, Zacks Nkosi, Ntemi Piliso, Chris McGregor and Hotep Galeta.

Sting and David Bowie open strip club
Sting and David Bowie are opening a burlesque club together. The rock stars have bought former New York Mafia haunt ‘Little Charlie's Clam Bar’ in Little Italy and plan to launch an exotic striptease nightspot there this autumn.

The new club, which will reportedly cost $4 million to build, will be linked to Businessman Ivan Kane Forty Deuce venues in Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Kane said, "It's a done deal, they are the two main partners."

Los Angeles' Forty Deuce has previously attracted a host of celebrities including George Clooney, Leonardo DiCaprio, Sir Mick Jagger and Hugh Grant.

The clubs feature live jazz bands and exotic dancers who strip on stage. The performers protect their modesty using feather boas, fans and jewel-encrusted underwear.

Spokespeople for Sting, 55, and Bowie, 60, have confirmed their involvement in the burlesque club. The singers are not expected to manage the nightspot, but will act solely as investors.
