Cape Town - The popular Canadian rocker – best known for his hits Summer of 69, Run To You and Heaven – is currently in SA performing in four cities as part of his Get Up World Tour.

YOU did a quick catch-up with the 58-year-old – who released a 21-track compilation album, Ultimate, last month – and discovered he boasts a very dry wit!

You’ve visited SA a few times, what keeps you coming back to our beautiful country?

Well, we usually fly on South African Airways, but this time we took Turkish Airways.

What are you planning to do in your free time?

The shows are far apart, so that means the days off are travelling to the next gig, leaving not much time, but I do plan on seeing my cousins down here.

Are you a fan of any SA musicians or bands?

Of course, the great Mutt Lange whom I wrote with in the 90s!

Which songs does a crowd always demand of you?

I’ve never asked them to be honest, and they are usually not that demanding because I play all the songs you know and love.

Which city in the world do you love performing in most?

Impossible question, maybe New York.

Describe a typical day in Bryan’s life when you’re not on the road.

It’s either family, photography, recording new music, and more recently I’ve been writing the musical Pretty Woman for Broadway.

What keeps you performing and making music?

It beats my other job as a dishwasher.

Which other performer would you most like to work with?

Ed Sheeran.

Tell us a bit about your new compilation album?

Even though it’s an “ultimate" collection I included two new songs - Please Stay and Ultimate Love. These are songs that I felt in these uncertain times, show we’re all looking for love more than ever.

What advice would you have given your teenage self?

Don’t f*****g sign it.
