7 quick questions with Afrikaans singer Riana Nel

Cape Town – With six studio albums and several awards under her belt, Afrikaans singer Riana Nel needs no introduction.

The Namibian-born singer and sister of Nianell is currently pepping for the last show before welcoming her second child into the world.

We recently caught up with the singer ahead of her last show at Liefde by die Dam.

Check out our 7 quick questions with Riana:

How are you and what are you up to at the moment?

I'm so good! Looking forward to this last show before I go on maternity leave!

Are you working on any new music and when can we expect a new album?

We are writing and hoping to bring out a new album in 2018 if all goes well.

Who or what has been the biggest musical influence in your life?

I think you can learn from anyone, but when you admire someone not only for their craft but their heart and personality also it makes for good inspiration. Guys like that for me are people who not only sings or makes music but they do it with a purpose! Guys like Retief Burger influences me to know why I do what I do and musical geniuses like Gangs of Ballet and Prime Circle just excite me! And I will always be a big fan of Sheryl Crow.

What CD is in your car at the moment?

Haha, my own cause it’s not on iTunes yet.

What is the one thing no one knows about you?

Can’t think of anything.

What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learnt from being in the music industry?

You don't have to try and prove yourself all the time by over singing. Less is more. And people are more important than business, but I learned that the hard way.

What can people expect from your performance at Liefde by die Dam?

I'm gonna give it my best!

What’s next for you?

Looking forward to writing some great songs with other bands and singers. And just spending time with my family! And AFRIKAANS IS GROOT!

Catch Riana Nel live at Liefde by die Dam where she will be sharing the stage with Die Heuwels Fantasties, Francois van Coke, Laurika Rauch, Jo Black, Majoz, JR and Loki Rothman.
