Gaga 'can't believe' ticket sales crash

2012-06-20 14:49
Cape Town – Lady Gaga has voiced disbelief to her South African Monsters (her nickname for her fans) after Computicket's online ticketing system crashed on Tuesday when sales for her This Way Ball tour was opened.

Many irate fans had tweeted about their frustrating ticket buying experiences to the singer.

One fans, Nabeela Noorani @NabzNoorani, told Lady Gaga that she had waited in the online queue for hours before the system crashed.

"Waited 3.5 hours!! And then it crashed!!!!!! There bettr still b tickets," she tweeted.

"I waited for 8 hours in a queue to see you Mother Mons†er in Johannesburg. Loooooove you!!" wrote @RiaanSmal.

@AyandaNdlovu also told the Pokerface singer that he had struggled to obtain his tickets. "@ladygaga we love you! Waited ages just to get a ticket!" he said.

The Born This Way singer tweeted to her 26 million followers:

Late on Tuesday night event organisers, Big Concerts released a statement on their Facebook page:

"Due to demand, the ticketing system experienced a nationwide outage today and web sales have been sporadic as a result.

"To rectify the situation and to ensure that all fans have the best possible access to tickets, online ticket sales have been discontinued for the evening," they said.

Online ticket sales were re-opened at 09:00 on Wednesday and the Shoprite Group announced they would be selling tickets over the counter for both the Cape Town and Johannesburg shows at their Money Market stores a day earlier than anticipated.

Shoprite Group Chief Executive Officer Whitey Basson said they were "unhappy" with Computicket's decision to relent to the insistence of the tour promoters to reserve ticket sales for internet users for the first 48 hours.

Lady Gaga is set to perform at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on 30 November and at the Cape Town Stadium on 3 December.

Computicket should die!! Their systems are absolutely crap, and they are totally arrogant about it. Idiots! Why do Big Concerts persist with them? What about trying TicketPros? So far they have impressed me.

      Christopher - 2012-06-20 15:24

Why do people like her...I just dont see it..? Can anyone explain?

      Billy - 2012-06-20 15:36

LOL! "Computicket should die!!" yoh, a bit rof hey

      wesley.bischoff - 2012-06-20 15:40

If you people dislike her so much, why are you obsessed with her, constantly complaining on these forums???

      wesley.bischoff - 2012-06-20 15:53

      Indeed :)

      JaredVN - 2012-06-20 17:01

I can't believe that people would queue up to see a sensationalist Madonna imitator with 2 or 3 vaguely familiar songs. The good music really did die sometime between 1980 and 1990.

      Squeegee - 2012-06-20 17:42

Wait till she gets to customs... hahaha. "Eh... What are u..?"

      sean.looney - 2012-06-20 19:47

good music didn't die, it just went underground and to the periphery. good pop music on the other hand died way back with the beatles.

      duanne.dames - 2012-06-20 23:06

"the insistence of the tour promoters to reserve ticket sales for internet users for the first 48 hours." Not Computicket's decision

      benn.sadie - 2012-06-21 13:48

Anyone prepared to listen to this go-go, deserves the frustration. Its a sad reflection on SA youth - 2012-06-21 14:35

      Welcome to AFRICA

      Sam.Lei.D - 2012-06-21 15:23

Good music didn't die!! It evolved into awesomeness!!!

      somikazi.pita - 2012-06-21 23:38

Well JaredVN, some of us were babies then, please allow us to enjoy Gaga if you may...

      ryan.a.smith.3958 - 2012-06-22 10:17

yea it doesnt say much because Computicket often crashes. useless. the last time i booked for U2 the same thing happened

      maseratifittipaldi - 2012-06-23 05:20

Christopher : I was hoping to see some reaction to your question. So far there is none. So it seems even those who like her, don't know why. Now why does this make me think of sheep?

  • rowan.maulson - 2012-06-20 15:16

Why is she shocked? Computicket have never been able to handle any kind of actual load on their system.... They're looking at 200000 tickets TOPS for both concerts. Any halfway decent booking system should be able to handle that kind of load without breaking too much of a sweat.

      duanne.dames - 2012-06-20 23:09

new cloud based service with digital queue tested under stress conditions for the first time. "the insistence of the tour promoters to reserve ticket sales for internet users for the first 48 hours." Not Computicket's decision

      brian.exmachina - 2012-06-22 16:17

Agree, their systems crash with every single big event. Annually with Springbok vs All Black test tickets as well. It's absolutely pathetic.

  • jayjay.talbot - 2012-06-20 15:17

Gaga couldn't believe it? Wait and see skattebol... not many things work properly here in our beautiful country... it's the 4th world mmmkay

      Pixie86 - 2012-06-20 15:21

i resent negative people who like to pretend everything in this country is falling apart! The fact that international celebs are suddenly very interested in touring here means they have seen something great about our country! We are Africa's biggest economy!

      Bones - 2012-06-20 16:02

Pixie,Pixie,Pixie, You should stop hibernating dear. These people are not negative, they are realists. You know. Those people who keep their heads out of the sand?

      jean.tredoux.5 - 2012-06-20 16:10

Uhm bones, decided this morning I was gonna get tickets, go them at 10am.

      Pixie86 - 2012-06-20 16:41

jayjay, negative nancies like you irritate me. Sure, the economy might have been bigger then, but please don't pretend we're living in a country that is in chaos where there is absolutely no control. No country is perfect so why should SA be. Thank God for small mercies of not living in a country riddled by civil war like Syria, or that's run by dictators like Korea. Gees, if you hate it here so much, bounce. Some of us still believe we have a chance to make something here!

      JohncarlosBiza - 2012-06-20 23:54

Wahahaha SA'a economy was bigger in the 80s?! You probably think you had unicorns too during your 'good ol days'

      JohncarlosBiza - 2012-06-20 23:55

What's wrong with people who thumbs up total garbage like jayjay's posts?!

      russell.w.wright.5 - 2012-06-21 07:05

So Pixie I'm curious to know from you what you consider to be under control. How about education? that under control do you think? How about the police service?....under control or out of control? Crime?.....under control is it? Health care?....under control? Government spending? Corruption?.....under or out of control? Immigration control?.....working at optimum efficiency is it? Wildlife preservation? many rhinos so far this year?....200 hundred and what have been killed so far?........Definitely under control yeah? How about the department of sport and recreation? The military? Taxi drivers? Honey?... whatever it is you're smoking?... could you let me have some?

      russell.w.wright.5 - 2012-06-21 07:12

It's not pretending Pixie honey... it's reality. RPD? Affirmative Action? Government interference in the media and government attempts to silence the opposition? All under control is it? Arts and Culture? Farm murders? .....yup... nicely under control.........if a state of constant revolution is your bag then I suppose the situation in this country might be considered "under control".

      russell.w.wright.5 - 2012-06-21 07:25

So Pixie.....the only reason S.A doesn't resemble North Korea is because the ANC doesn't have complete control yet. Imagine, just for a second, it did....what do you think will happen to our farmland?....our mines?...our media?....freedom of speech?....opposition parties?....judicial system? Pixie Honey?.... I guarantee you wont be on the internet saying how silly all the naysayers where. as for civil war?.....we're already there sweetness it just hasn't registered yet. "The constitution will be interprted in the streets"?....this from the deputy president?

  • goyougoodthing - 2012-06-20 15:21

      Ingi - 2012-06-21 13:03

SHAME WESLEY.BISCHOFF!!! I'd rather walk round Sandton City with a stone in my shoe! Pity, I was given some tickets, I should have sent them to you instead of tearing them up!!! Who wants to watch a nut case like her, dripping in raw meat, trying to draw attention to herself???

      kbredenhann - 2012-06-21 16:11

Enjoy Wesley - although Lady G is not everyone's cup of tea (ooh, I'm a poet!), don't let the Mother Grundies spoil your enjoyment. I am not a fan but neither do I think she's satanic, the antichrist etc like some of these backwoods retards think and behave. If you don't like her, STFU and stop bitching about it, tune into another radio station/information channel. No-one asked you to read the articles and get your bloomers in a bunch. No-one is forcing you to listen to her music and no-one is criticising your choice of music either for that matter. it's called freedom of choice.

      somikazi.pita - 2012-06-21 23:20

      What's a Gaga?

  • dyl.brits - 2012-06-20 15:49

Computicket would crash even if they sold tickets to see paint dry. They love making money but for some reason hate the 21st century or just technology in general. Time to get another server Compuhell.

      duanne.dames - 2012-06-20 23:08

new cloud based service tested under stress conditions for the first time

      duanne.dames - 2012-06-20 23:09

and couldn't buy 2010 WC tickets online from Fifa through out the tournament cause of crashes

  • lydonmcg - 2012-06-20 15:58

I don't know why Big Concerts don't split the ticket sales between numerous local providers...why should Computicket have a monopoly on them? Especially when they've proven time and again that they aren't able to step up to the plate? Otherwise hand over sales to an international ticket vendor who are used to dealing with large events!

  • brendon.g.lambert - 2012-06-20 16:26

Computicket spokesmans insisted on Monday 18 June that the ticket sales webserver has been tested and will not crash.....EPIC Fail!!!!

      neilza - 2012-06-20 18:50

did it crash brendon. tell me did it. People just had to wait longer for tickets to prevent everyone trying connect at exactly same time. after 7 hours 50 minutes in the queue i got my email and could have bought tickets but i was just testing the queue system

      robbie.crouch - 2012-06-21 11:01

@NeilZA That is a crash of the system... even a layman can realize that!

      neilza - 2012-06-21 16:37

@robbie.crouch. a crash is when you start getting runtime errors and other codes or nothing at all on the screen. you could book anything else you want on the site as normal. What would you rather have 40000 plus people logging on at once and bringing the site down or all 40000 spread throughout the day and the site stays active. south africa doesnt offer the bandwidth to help a website sell out 150000 tickets in 1 hour like they do overseas.

  • vernon.thomas.146 - 2012-06-20 16:43

Don't get to far ahead of yourself Miss Gaga, Computicket's systems crashes for mid season Currie Cup games :-)

  • michal.kuhrau - 2012-06-20 17:02

computicket has never been able to take the strain. Even crashed with Neil Diamond, not to mention U2 and no one was informed of the disabled seating. Had to take my disabled friend to a branch to prove that he is disabled and was forced to wait for 6 hours - seriously not funny when you are somebody in a wheelchair

  • boltonbarry - 2012-06-20 17:38

    "Mother Monster" muhahahahahahahaha

  • Dakey - 2012-06-20 17:40

Computicket worked just find for me this afternoon. Got my tickets... to the rugby test. Well done Computicket.

      robbie.crouch - 2012-06-21 11:02

      Money well spent!

  • neilza - 2012-06-20 18:48

the system didnt crash. the queueing system prevented that. just meant instead of 40000 people logging on at once it spread them out throughout the day. So know the facts before you whine

      sean.looney - 2012-06-20 19:58

well i live in ireland and ticketmaster do all the tickets for events here. i've never known them to need to spread out the sales at all! thats why tickets sell out in 5 minutes here because THEY ACTUALLY INVEST IN SERVERS THAT CAN HANDLE THE LOAD.

      robbie.crouch - 2012-06-21 11:03

That is regarded as a crash dude!

      neilza - 2012-06-23 12:22

@sean.looney whats the internet bandwidth speeds in ireland hey. The max gateway into computickets server is 10mbps if they on the top and divide that by 40000 plus users and the website wont work no more

  • Jesse Palmer - 2012-06-21 06:15

I have no complaints about the system crashing. This high demand is good, and might encourage other big, CURRENT international acts to try a concert here. But now they really should try fix the system.

  • DeonHeunis - 2012-06-22 11:44

Get your facts straight News24. The statement made by Big Concerts, ("Due to demand, the ticketing system experienced a nationwide outage today and web sales have been sporadic as a result.") referred to the banking system outage which is completely out of Computicket's control. FNB admitted to this in a response to a question by a user on Twitter - WSK ?@wsk747 @Rbjacobs So @Computicket says "We are currently experiencing a major failure with our acquiring bank systems." AKA FNB Aquiring. That true? RbJacobs (FNB Guy) ?@Rbjacobs @wsk747 Unfortunately so, but our technical crew is on it. ?#pawsup? A system crash in computing is a condition where a computer or a program, either an application or part of the operating system, ceases to function properly. At no point in time did this happen to the Computicket website. The system processed payment, the banks rejected the payments and Computicket displayed the errors received back from the bank. How does that translate into a Computicket System Crash?

We cannot allow Lady Gaga 2 enter this country, and we Cannot support her! Fellow believers in Christ Jesus you may or may not know the seriousness of what I am saying now. We need to stand firm against the Lady Gaga concert. She is a confessed satanist and a bride of satan. Letting her in to SA for her concert will bring spells of evil. Let this concert be cancelled in Jesus name. Gaga is a name of a demon in case u did not know -pass on and take a stand... Its time for us as believers and followers of Christ to take our STAND!!

      Micheline - 2012-06-22 17:56

Ummm I come from a christian house and enjoy her music - I am just more open minded than you. I also happen to enjoy Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter - you probably think that is satanistic to right? What a boring world you must live in...shame I feel sorry for you.

      boykie.prince1 - 2012-06-23 06:51

How so sir?I'm a Christian working on Christian Radio...somebody raised this and I wondered how do we go about it in unison as the church??

      stanley.lefleur - 2012-06-23 13:06

@Jerome, the people in SA (70% admitted 2 adhere to Christianity) refuses to listen to sound advice. They have been warned about this person who calls herself a Lady (GaGa). After they have been warned, let it be, 'cause from their free will (though being bamboozled) they have chosen the worshiper of Balsebub. There will be a separation of the sheep and the goats, and you can ask anyone who the "Lady" represents... her actions and words surely put her squarely in the league of the goats. One does not even has to have a spirit of discernment... not judging, just discerning...

      zaatheist - 2012-06-26 16:14

I like Lady Gaga because she pees you off. "Its time for us as believers and followers of Christ to take our STAND!!" Ok, go and stand in the corner with the dunce cap.

      zaatheist - 2012-06-26 16:17

Why is your god so scared of the Debbil? It has occurred to me that in the Bible, the character of God is always telling people what to do and complaining about various things. One of his biggest issues is that the Hebrews don’t love him enough. In the New Testament Jesus whines about how people don’t love God enough. So I just gotta know: Why is God such a whiny bitch? Wouldn't it be easier just to look up to the sky and ask in a loud and clear voice, "God, are you real?" and if no reply comes take it that you are all alone, along with billions of other fools. Why does your god never turn up to do anything but prefers to stay away and embarrass and humiliate his followers?
