Johannesburg – Andre le Roux du Toit, who writes and performs as Koos Kombuis, wrote in a letter on his website that the court case between him and Anton Goosen is now "finally settled".
Goosen sued Kombuis earlier this year for damages of R50 000 after Kombuis in his book Die Tyd van Die Kombis described Goosen as "a frivolous person who has conversations with dead people".
In Kombuis's letter, he offers his "sincere apology" and also says he can understand that it could have upset Goosen.
'Not my mascot'
The following paragraph appears in the book: "While we recorded our CD in Gallo's massive ghrend studios, Anton sat behind the editing desk with a container of a dead man's ashes. It was his mascot.
"The ashes were the body of one of Gallo's PR chief's toddler daughter who was killed by a truck last month. The girl's name was Zoey. Every time we finished recording a song, Anton said: 'This was one for Zoey!' Anton constantly talked to Zoey."
According to Goosen Zoey's death is the only correct fact in the paragraph. Zoey was the child of a personal friend; she was not a toddler when she died; she was not "killed by a truck" and he had the container of Zoey's ashes with him because her parents requested him to pick it up for a memorial service later that day.
"At no time did I talk to Zoey's ashes and she was not my mascot," said Goosen said.
