Power FM announces star studded line-up

Cape Town - Power FM was awarded the last available FM radio frequency license by the Independent Communications Authority of SA in 2011, but ever since then the line-up has been kept a secret.

The station will start broadcasting on 18 June and announced its star studded lineup during a press conference on Wednesday morning, the Mail & Guardian reported.

The list of big names that signed up to the new station includes Siki Mgabadeli, Lawrence Thlabane, Andrea van Wyk, Ferial Carelse and former 702 presenter Eusebius McKaiser.

Others include Azania Mosaka, Chris Vick and DJ Franky.

Top Billing presenter Ursula Chikane and TV personality Pabi Moloi will also host shows during the weekend.

The English-medium, talk-based commercial station would aim to attract black urban listeners between 25 and 49.

The launch of the radio station was announced in April this year, with Power FM chairman Given Mkhari saying they're "confident" and that "all of the strategic elements of the radio station's programming will be revealed" in due course.

The station is owned by MSG Africa Investment Holdings, led by Mkhari, with stakeholders including Ndalo Media, led by Khanyi Dhlomo, and Zico, led by Sandile Zungu.

The consortium also owns Capricorn FM in Limpopo which launched in November 2007 and has a listenership of more than 1.5 million.
