RHCP fans angry at Computicket

Cape Town – Red Hot Chili Peppers fans have expressed their anger at Computicket after Golden Circle and General Admission tickets for Cape Town sold out just minutes after sales opened at 09:00 on Thursday.

Fans have taken to Twitter to vent their anger at Computicket who, in their view, failed to make their Red Hot Chili Peppers dream come true.

Jolene de Lange tweeted the following: "The biggest disappointment of my life. Second in the que for #rhcp and I only get standing tickets! Screw #computicket (sic)"

PR executive Onikca van der Sandt tried her luck at a Computicket outlet Big Bay, but was left fuming when the system crashed. "@BigConcerts systems are down at counters! When will you learn? @Computicket is and NEVER will be good enough to handle the numbers #Bleak," she tweeted.

According to tech writer Arthur Goldstuck, Computicket's Facebook page is "a case study in social media disaster. #RHCP complaints flood in, but can't respond".

Some fans also expressed anger over the fact that tickets are limited to 20 per person in Cape Town.

Jennifer Gregory said on Computicket's Facebook page: "How can computicket allow people to buy 20 at a time. Seriously not fare. Something must be done about that. Really not cool. And I've been waiting since 7 and now I can only get general admission. How's that?????? (sic)"

Thursday's ticket disaster comes after pre-sale tickets for the Red Hot Chili Peppers' shows in Cape Town and Johannesburg opened via the band's website on Monday, with many fans expressing concern over the amount of tickets that will be left for purchase when official ticket sales opened.

Some fans also noted that Red Hot Chili Peppers tickets were being offered by resellers on Gumtree - at massive mark-ups - just minutes after they were sold out at Computicket.

Red Hot Chili Peppers will be performing in South Africa on Saturday, 2 February at the Soccer City Complex, FNB Stadium, Johannesburg and on Tuesday, 5 February at Cape Town Stadium.

Bleh! Got general seating tickets (2nd Tier) and been up since 6am patiently anticipating. Oh Well... at least I'll be there but I empathise for some...

      preshen.govender.90 - 2012-08-30 15:05

Big concerts must "Give it away give it away give it away now" the tickets

      bryan.winn - 2012-08-31 08:42

Computicket has screwed up every major event. With LP the online #D verification for credit cards wasn't working and I lost out on GC

  • wesley.bischoff - 2012-08-30 10:47

You guys should have known it'd happen, after the Lady Gaga fiasco.

      mark.ross.779 - 2012-08-30 10:51

True, it always happens.. but doesn't change the fact that 20 tickets is too big a limit, and that those pricks on gumtree are just screwing other fans. We got tickets luckily, I just think the system needs a relook.

      Chumscrubber1 - 2012-08-30 11:34

Best thing would be to boycott the tickets on Gumtree, then they sit with a very expensive concert. Should find the people that do this sort of thing and punish them. We managed to get 2 tickets miles from the band stand - hope its worth it being so far from the action.

  • mark.ross.779 - 2012-08-30 10:47

Those bloody gumtree people who buy 20 tickets and then make a huge mark-up selling most of them piss me off so much. 20 tickets computicket?? Its way way too many. You'll struggle to find 4 legitimate group of 20 mates who pooled their cash beforehand and set out to buy 20 tickets. Vast majority are guys who a) buy 20 and then sell to their mates (thereby screwing the people actually queueing) or b) people who automatically take to to gumtree to extort other fans. I wonder whether we need a legitimate competitor to arise to scare them into realising they need to catch a wake up

  • gerald.majola.7 - 2012-08-30 10:47

RHCP are dinosaurs anyway, Computicket did you a favour

      jess.scholtz.18 - 2012-08-30 11:01

Looks like SOMEBODY didn't get the tickets he wanted.

      Chumscrubber1 - 2012-08-30 11:37

I did not think the demand would be so high, they don't appeal to a lot of people - but I was wrong. So dinosaurs - it seems not. Hope they don't dissapoint like the ridiculous "UB 40" recently at Mbombela - luckily I saw them live in Mozambique when they were still "alive"!

  • A.J. - 2012-08-30 10:59

At least im not alone! Computicket needs to up there game!By now we should know to be dissappointed by them, but they are our only way of getting the tickets!!! So full of s*%t...

      Papa-storm - 2012-08-30 12:16

no a.j ticket pro is another option and that system hasn't crashed once even when booking high capacity games

      neilza - 2012-08-30 16:18

@Papastorm ticket pro doesnt know what high load is.

  • ChronicDJ - 2012-08-30 11:00

computicket open pre-sale tickets 2 days before the official opening to public. This is meant for international sales and people who cannot make it to queue for tickets. I doubt there's any limit to how many tickets are made available on presale hence why they're sold out so soon after its officially available to public. I got mine on presale, but i see the flaw.

  • eleonora.ilieva.9 - 2012-08-30 11:01

Yes, Computicket sucks!! How can they allow people to buy 20 tickets, it just allows for people to buy them up and resell them at huge costs. They did not think at all. I am very dissapointed, The system froze twice on me and by that time the tickets I wanted were gone. Computicket catch a wake up!

  • werners13 - 2012-08-30 11:07

People complaining that they didn't get golden but now have to be in general standing? Spare me! At least you got in. Tickets only appeared on the computers 09:07 where we have been waiting since before the stores even opened, I was SECOND in line and GC and General was sold out immediately @ 09:08. How is that possible? \r\n\r\nI agree about someone mentioning corruption... These bastards on gumtree.. Damn them!

  • lauren.baerecke - 2012-08-30 11:07

I was up at 5am and first in line at Checkers, stupidly thinking this was my best bet considering the fiasco with the online ticketing system for previous concerts. Despite being first in line, I still wasn't able to get golden circle...where did the tickets go if none were available as ticket sales opened?! It seems that booking online was the way to go this time around. Bloody computicket and their incompetence!

  • lydonmcg - 2012-08-30 11:09

There is no reason why Big Concerts can't use an international ticketing vendor that can handle the load.

  • tony.kirby1 - 2012-08-30 11:12

It's all about making money. Sell tickets as quickly as possible. Hang on to the money for as long as possible. promotors have their money up front. Use your money to import Band. All they want is to fill the stadium, stuff the people if they cant hear, see the band down on the field below.

  • Werewabbit - 2012-08-30 11:21

Anything more than 8 tickets per person is too much. I am lucky in that I got a Golden Circle Ticket for CTN and a seat in JHB- although a GC would have been my preference (going to both!). Why don't they demand ID at the gate, and corresponding ID numbers on the tickets. if you want to sell your ticket for what ever reason you have to go back to computicket, pay a X% handling fee and they reprint it in the name of the new owner. or simply you return it for 80% of the value and the new person buys it from computicket at full mark up. either of these will reduce the gumtree bastards.

      mark.ross.779 - 2012-08-30 11:33

100% agree. Resales should be done via a legitimate medium. Smart man, would you like a bells?

      nicole.paulsen.31 - 2012-08-30 11:44

      Clever Idea!

      Werewabbit - 2012-08-30 20:35

Thanks! I suspect that they have already thought of this and found some fundamental problem, such as implementing the ID check on 80 000 people. I'll send them an email and see what they say...

  • llewellync - 2012-08-30 11:27

I thought the limit was 8 per person not 20?

  • robyn.v.millar - 2012-08-30 11:32

We stood at a Checkers outlet and experienced no problems. However we felt it was unfair that one individual could go and stand in a line and then by 10 or more tickets. The way I see it, tickets should have been limited to 5 (if that even) per person. Maybe that would put a thorn in the Gumtree sellers side. Computicket have stuffed up all three of the big performances ticket sales, I just hope they fix this before any other acts make their way to our Shores. Use it as a learning curve and fix the problems already!

      llewellync - 2012-08-30 11:38

According to the site only 8 tickets per person were allowed

      adam.hannath - 2012-08-30 22:48

20 tickets per person in cape town...8 in joey's

  • chanel.coetzer - 2012-08-30 11:37

I was first in Q at checkers , 2nd at the counter (running like a mad person) and only got 2 standing and had to take 4 seated. I agree, the 20 ticket limit is far too much, 8 tickets sound reasonable. If you buy 20, all you doing it for is for re-selling. Very disappointed with Computicket. Took 30min for me to get my tickets as system crashed twice....MAD!!! Not a happy camper, I know I got tickets but the whole process was badly managed.

  • ludlowdj - 2012-08-30 12:01

misdirected anger apparently, only a moron could possibly be angry at Computicket for not giving them tickets it doesn't have.

  • BoyvandieSuburbs - 2012-08-30 12:06

    I repeat: COMPUTICKET MUST DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wikus.brand - 2012-08-30 12:08

i think we must start a group where we phone these bitches on gumtree , arrange to buy the tickets, moer them , take the tickets and give it to the people that deserve it

      mark.ross.779 - 2012-08-30 13:07

I always thought that too haha.. I'd be there with you bro

  • jeremy.rich.90 - 2012-08-30 12:11

U2, Lady Gaga, Linkin Park and now RHCP have all been a ticketing fiasco. Computicket can't handle it and one wonders why Big Concerts keep giving them the job. How can Big Concerts justify a press release saying tickets are available from Wednesday when you could get them on the bands website from Monday - you just went to the website and took a hyperlink that redirected you to Computicket.

  • pule.lepitla - 2012-08-30 12:11

    Who cares? Crap music anyway!!!

      andrew.lange3 - 2012-09-02 13:48

You don't have a clue, do you?

  • ckiddo - 2012-08-30 12:27

Didnt even get a chance for General standing nevermind Gold Circle... Cant believe it :-(

  • robert.cerff - 2012-08-30 12:34

Honestly... anyone expect Computicket to get it right after the Lady Gaga balls up?! When is Computicket going to go the way of other obsolete and now usless things.

  • werners13 - 2012-08-30 13:26

I am hearing reports that general standing tickets became available at 13:00?? Are you kidding me!!!!!! I am furious, while people started buying seated tickets as general was sold out, now people who never made any effort to go to shops or outlets will get general standing tickets 4 hours later after selling out? I despise computicket and big concerts should this be true!

  • Hallo - 2012-08-30 13:31

It's called supply and demand, dimwits.

      mark.ross.779 - 2012-08-30 13:38

      Please, teach me economics master

  • sarah.labuschagne.9 - 2012-08-30 13:46

Well....I'm so sorry for everybody who didnt get their tickets. I was 4 thousandth and something in the queue online and i hung in there, and got my standing room tickets (wanted golden circle but wasn't as quick!) I think we have to accept that there is a lot of demand for the RHCP and unless they put in additional concert dates not everybody will get what they want. Poor people who didn't get tickets I feel sad for you (genuinely! No sarcasm I promise!)

  • haydn.gawronsky - 2012-08-30 14:36

Seriously, why does this surprise anyone! Same rubbish from Computicket, different concert.

  • HayleyEL - 2012-08-30 14:44

I got tickets on Monday!! Whoop Whoop!! I DID learn my lesson after Lady Gaga... So freaking amped!! BRING ON SUMMER!!

  • vicky.gasser - 2012-08-30 15:21

Computicket's queuing system is ludicrous - I've booked concert tickets for overseas concerts that took me minutes to do from my computer here in SA. Why can we not adapt a simple system?

  • cobus.coetzee.58 - 2012-08-30 20:09

To all the uninformed people. Computicket only executes the instructions of Big Concerts and are merely providing the platform for ticket sales. They do not make the rules. Go get pissed off with Big Concerts - They make the rules about pre-sales etc...

  • grant.penny - 2012-08-30 21:43

This isn't just SA. Conputicket crashing is a bad situation, but tickets selling out in ten/twenty minutes happens. Big Concerts should add more dates for these events. For one a second RHCP date will possibly sell out too, and secondly I think people are getting pissed off to the stage of giving BC the finger the next time a big artist is announced.

  • brionyl.french - 2012-08-31 05:54

Maybe tickets shouldnt be sold through computicket anymore... and maybe just maybe Big Concerts and the promoters need to re think the way inwhich they operate... maybe we should be having two concerts in JHB and Cape Town... and then one in Natal... notice how the durbanites must always travel to Cape Town or JHB making its harder for the people in the provinces to get tickets! THINK ABOUT IT!!!

  • morne.s.smit.5 - 2012-08-31 06:12

I tried getting Golden circle tickets but impossible! Will be there can't wait.

  • rushdien.pohplonker - 2012-09-01 17:33

I managed to get general standing tickets, i feel the tickets sale were handled terribly. I saw on some peoples status that they managed to buy tickets at certain outlets before 9? and when i went online just to see at about 1pm i saw there were more general standing tickets available.

  • christopher.m.lowe - 2012-09-02 16:09

Computicket has screwed up every single show I've tried to book for these past two years. They used to be good, now it's just chaos. I just don't bother using Computicket anymore. They're useless.

  • justin.hemming.94 - 2012-10-29 09:22

Stop complaining. We in Durbs never get any good acts - ever! No Linkin Park, No RHCP, No 30s to Mars, etc, etc. And you shouldn't be able to buy more than 5 tickets each!

  • Lise Meow Meow Wait - 2013-12-10 08:07

A year later I'm still angry. Was in the queue since 6am, only general standing tickets. Golden Circle tickets were sold on Gumtree, Computicket did nothing about that.
