Cape Town – Legendary band The Eagles, who have already absorbed some of the magic that is Cape Town, said it's now time to work a bit and that SA can "expect the best".

The Eagles, who are on Rolling Stone's list of top 100 greatest artists of all time, will be performing at the Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday and tickets are still available for the show at Computicket.

Stronger rock sound

Timothy B Schmit and Joe Walsh are two of the "new" members of The Eagles. The group was formed in 1971. Walsh joined them in 1975 and Schmit in 1977.

"To join The Eagles was a great moment in my life," said Schmit, the bassist in the group. "Apart from giving me more exposure, it also gave me more security and that's something I will never take for granted."

Walsh gets the recognition for changing The Eagles' music from country to a stronger rock sound.

"The Eagles were the first great country rock band in America. When I joined them, Don (Henley) wanted a stronger rock sound. The result included Hotel California."

'Expect the best'

In response to whether they ever get tired of playing the same songs, Walsh said: "There aren't many places in the world anymore where we're performing for the first time. South Africa is such a place. For us to play the songs for the audience here, is like playing it for the first time."

Walsh is considered one of the best guitarists in the world. "I reckon between the four members of The Eagles we brought about 30 guitars with us. And if I must choose which guitar is my favourite, I'd say a Gibson Les Paul and a Fender Stratocaster."

Cape Town is everything they expected and more. Schmit and his wife have already taken the cable car up Table Mountain and Walsh explored the peninsula in a helicopter, but now the work begins.
With regards to what people can expect at the concerts in South Africa, Schmidt said: "Good music of The Eagles. They can, as always, expect the best."
