#ThrowbackThursday: Local music style

Cape Town - Before house music took over, South Africa had a thing that happened every year. It took over radio, television and festivals all over the country and you couldn't go anywhere without hearing it.

You guessed it! Summer anthems. They were songs that everybody knew word for word from your ouma to your mama and they made all of us dance while feeling very patriotic.

For the love of local music we have decided to take you back to a time when kwaito ruled the airwaves and when Kurt Darren was at the pinnacle of his music career.

Say it with me now; local is lekker!

1) Brenda Fassie - Vuli Ndlela

2) Mandoza - Nkalakatha

3) Mafikizolo - Ndihahamba Nawe

5) Kurt Darren - Kaptein

5) Malaika - Destiny

6) Arno Carstens - Another Universe
