Atlanta - Authorities say rapper Young Thug has been jailed outside Atlanta on a charge of making terroristic threats.
US marshals arrested the 23-year-old rapper, whose real name is Jeffery Lamar Williams, on Wednesday morning on a warrant by Dunwoody police.
Jim Joyner of the US Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force says Williams was apprehended without incident at a home in Sandy Springs and was taken to the DeKalb County jail.
A warrant says Williams, known for his 2013 single Stoner, was arrested after threatening to shoot a security guard at Perimeter Mall in the face after he was told to leave the building.
It was not immediately known if Williams had an attorney. Online jail records had no information on Williams' arrest.
MTV spokesperson Alison Reid told Channel24 that the rapper will still be part of the MTV Africa Music Awards which is set to take place in Durban this Saturday, 18 July. "We have received no news to indicate that Young Thug will not be part of MAMA 2015 and we look forward to welcoming him to Durban," Reid told Channel24.
News also broke on Thursday that Young Thug was involved in a shooting which targeted Lil Wayne’s tour bus in April this year. According to The Guardian, the rapper and Birdman, the boss of Lil Wayne’s Cash Money label, have both been named in a court indictment alleging the two were involved in orchestrating the attack.
