Johannesburg - R&B and soul lovers are in for a treat as news that Musiq Soulchild is coming to South Africa just landed.
The American singer and songwriter, who brought us hits such as Girl Next Door, Yes and Love, will headline the Winter Jazz Festival at GrandWest in Cape Town and Carnival City outside Joburg on Friday 12 June and Saturday 13 June.
Soulchild, 37, has had more than a decade’s worth of success on the international music scene and will perform on the first night of the two-day festival taking place at the Big Top Arena at Carnival City.
Last year, the Philadelphia-born hitmaker revealed his rap alter ego named The Husel. Billboard reported that the choice to reinvent his music "was the result of music listeners clamouring for hip-hop driven sounds"."I like to entertain people according to what they’re saying entertains them," Soulchild said in the report.
He then released a self-titled mixtape.
South African-born Grammy Award winning artist Jonathan Butler will grace South Africans with his presence on the second night – along with American jazz singer Oleta Adams and jazz saxophonist Euge Groove.
The line-up includes local acts such as Afropop singer Lira, The Soil and Judith Sephuma.
Tickets for the festival are already on sale at Computicket and range from R350 to R650.
