Los Angeles - Adele has been hailed as the biggest name in music after signing up to perform at the BRIT Awards 2016.

BRITs chairman Max Lousada has confirmed the Hello hitmaker - who made her triumphant return to the music industry this year after a four-year hiatus - will play at the star-studded ceremony at London's O2 Arena on 24 February.

He explained: "You couldn't get a bigger name in music right now. Adele is having an exceptional moment and the Brits are delighted to be a part of her history, her present and future."

The 27-year-old singer is no stranger to the BRITs, having won three of the prestigious awards in previous years.

She was also famously interrupted by host James Corden at the ceremony in 2012 while making her acceptance speech for the Best British Album for 21.

After being rudely interrupted, which wasn't Corden's fault, she went on to make a rude hand gesture.

She later said that it was directed at "the suits" rather than her fans.

The BRIT Awards with MasterCard 2016 takes place at London's O2 Arena on 24 February.
