Akon City to open in Senegal where you can pay for everything in Akoin

Cape Town - Senegalese-American artist Akon on 13 January took to Twitter to confirm that his very own city will be welcoming citizens soon.

"Just finalized the agreement for AKON CITY in Senegal. Looking forward to hosting you there in the future," the 46-year-old tweeted

Akon City will be built on 2 000 acres of land, gifted to the singer by the Senegalese President Macky Sall, reports Travel and Leisure

According to Billboard the city will be the first ever to run on 100 percent renewable energy.

Citizens of Akon City will be able to pay for everything in a cryptocurrency known as Akoin. On its website Akoin is described as being "created by Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum selling artist, producer, entrepreneur and philanthropist Akon".

The site adds: "The Akoin Ecosystem unlocks the potential of the world's largest emerging economy through the creation of a trusted cryptocurrency with a vision to stimulate and innovate, revenue-generating opportunities that support and empower youth entrepreneurship, economic stability, and growth across Africa and the world."
