Johannesburg - Last year Twitter was abuzz with news that Babes Wodumo wouldn’t be attending the BET Awards and the MTV EMAs because she didn’t apply for a visa on time. However, it seems the Gqom queen’s management has learnt a lesson from their two previous attempts.

DRUM has learnt the Wololo hitmaker will be jetting off to the United Kingdom for a show on 27 October.

According to the singer’s manager and older sister, Nondumiso Simelane, the visa has been granted for Babes’ to perform her first overseas gig.

“This time she is really going, there won’t be any problems,” Nondumiso revealed. Babes will perform in Birmingham with a live band.

“She is happy about this gig, and this is proof she is doing amazing things for someone her age. She is indeed the Brenda Fassie of this age,” Nondumiso said.
There have been reports Babes and her previous “manager”, Hlengiwe Mbambo, have parted ways. The reports further claim Hlengiwe was the third manager to ditch the Gqom star. But Nondumiso says Hlengiwe was never Babes’ manager, just her publicist.

“There was never a contract between Babes and Hlengiwe. Besides, she was only helping her with PR. Hlengiwe got another job so we decided it was going to be too much for her to keep working for Babes too.”

She said a new PR company will join them soon. But for now Nondumiso is doing both management and publicity for Babes. Hlengiwe confirmed to Sunday Sun that she was no longer working with Babes but couldn’t reveal the reasons.
