Cape Town - A blind fan is suing Beyoncé as she believes the singer’s website isn’t accessible to visually impaired fans, The Hollywood Reporter reports.
A class action lawsuit has been brought against Beyoncé’s company Parkwood Entertainment by Mary Conner, who claims the Nice singer’s website, Beyonce.com, violates the Americans with Disabilities Act “by denying visually impaired users equal access to products and services offered on the site”.
In court papers filed by lawyer Dan Shaked on behalf of his client, who has “no vision whatsoever”, Mary claims the website isn't fully accessible to her and millions of others who have visual impairments.
“The one and only form of entertainment that truly presents an even playing field between the visually impaired and the sighted is the joy of music. Plaintiff dreams of attending a Beyoncé concert and listening to her music in a live setting. However, when she browsed the Beyonce.com website, she encountered numerous barriers which limited her accessibility to the goods and services offered on the website.”
Mary also further alleges the website has “an exclusively visual interface” and that she’s unable to access it without the assistance of a sighted companion.
Beyoncé founded Parkwood in 2010, and the company produced and released the singer’s two latest visual albums, including the critically acclaimed Lemonade.
Beyoncé and representatives for Parkwood have yet to respond to a request for comment.
