A Canadian rapper died after an airplane stunt he was doing as part of his music video shoot went horribly wrong, reports The Star Vancouver.

Jon James was on the wing of a Cessna aircraft while it was in flight – a stunt which, according to his manager, Ryan Desrochers, he’d trained for intensively, reports Guardian.

Unfortunately during Saturday’s shoot in the Canadian province of British Columbia, the 34-year-old walked too far out on the wing, which caused the aircraft to spiral downwards, writes CNN.

He held onto the wing for as long as he could and by the time he fell there wasn’t enough time for him to open up his parachute, Ryan said. The rapper died on impact.

According to a statement released by Jon’s management team, the Jon grew up in Calgary and was a professional skier before leaving the slopes to pursue his music career.

“He filled everyone around him with positivity, and never spoke poorly about another person. He truly had a heart of gold,” it read.

“His passion for making music videos and performing stunts were combined, and Jon pushed music in a new direction that was uncharted territory,” it continued.
