Congolese singer Papa Wemba dies on stage

Cape Town – According to a report by the BBC, influential Congolese music star Papa Wemba has died.

He allegedly collapsed on stage on Saturday during a performance in Abidjan in Ivory Coast.

France24 reported that the 66-year-old fell to the floor during the performance whilst his dancers continued to perform unaware of what had happened.

The Independent reports that Papa Wemba was known as the King of Rhumba Rock and rose to fame in his twenties. He went on to become one of Africa's most popular musicians.
