Country singer killed in accidental shooting with music video prop

Texas – Rising country music star Justin Carter has died. He was 35.

According to E! News Carter was shot and killed by a gun that was going to be used as a prop in a music video, in Texas.

Mark Atherton of Triple Threat Management – who Carter had just signed a deal with – confirmed to ABC7 on Thursday that Carter died after a reported accidental shooting but provided no further details.

Atherton told the outlet further: "Justin had a potential to, you know, in our eyes, and a lot of people's eyes to be the next Garth Brooks."

Speaking to the outlet after her son's death, Carter's mother, Cindy McClellan, said: "His music was his world. He was always there for everybody."

Carter's death was announced on his Instagram page on Sunday 17 March.

Alongside a photo of the late singer, the caption read: "Please keep Justin’s family in your prayers & give them privacy in this hard time. Justin is no longer with us, he has passed away. 

"He will be missed by us all, he was always full of joy, laughter, and loved on so many people in his life. Justin appreciated all his fans and their support. Justin loved all of you."
