Dr Tumi does it again

Johannesburg - Gospel musician, songwriter, instrumentalist, vocalist, producer and physician Dr Tumisang Makweya, popularly known as Dr Tumi, has proved to be Mr Fill-up when it comes to concerts.

Last year he filled up the TicketPro Dome in Johannesburg with 20 000 people at his first annual Gathering of Worshippers.

Last weekend he raised the bar higher at Pretoria’s Voortrekker Monument with more than 30 000 revellers for the second annual Gathering of Worshippers. He also recorded his fourth album titled Beauty For Ashes.

This sold-out event was amazing, with more people still knocking for extra tickets.

For the first time the 37-year-old father of three recorded with nine new backing vocalists he picked from July auditions.

Tickets for the event sold like hot cakes. They were oversubscribed and had to bring in more chairs to the venue.

But there was no need to bring in chairs as people, moved by the holy spirit, had no time to sit down.

The award winner has fans across the continent and people came from as far as Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland for the event.

When asked about the next target Dr Tumi said he did what he believed God needed.

“I do not have targets. We’re doing more next year, but I will wait for God to lead me.”

He writes his own songs and gives people fresh music every time he releases an album.

The 12 new songs he recorded at the Gathering of Worshippers were powerful – songs of victory, God’s love, joy, prophecy and declaration.

Radio personality and musician Seipati “Twasa” Seoke was the MC and an opening act, followed by others, such as pastor Lungi Ndala, Jesse Priestly and Lucas Maloma. Zimbabwean gospel comedian Nceku Sibanda had the crowd laughing out loud before Dr Tumi’s glorious performance.
