Back when my parents were young, they all used to crowd around the radio and listen to the DJ's latest finds and go to their nearest record store to buy a copy of that new, fresh artist.
My aunts and uncles told me stories of asking friends to sneak records back from neighbouring countries or if they had a 'connection' to do some illegal importing under the Apartheid state.
So, much so, that I remember one of my uncles telling me how he got his hands on an original Beatles pressing after hearing them on the radio. Cut to the 80s/early 90s when my sister would watch MTV VJs give her the latest scoop about who the latest and best artists were.
There were interviews, countdowns and even dance moves that capitalised on the new visual music boom. Then, there's my generation. Streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer take our listening history and find new artists that we might like based on that.
On Apple Music, they also have their experts make playlists with their best brightest artists.Now generation z is obsessed with Tik Tok and lip-syncing to their favourite young artists or even dropping their own versions of top 40 hits.
And as the songs or covers go viral on Tik Tok, the rest of the world slowly cottons onto what the youth were the first to know. Two of the best examples of this, in my opinion, are Arizona Zervas' hit song Roxanne and a new viral video of Jamie Foxx's daughter Corinne Foxx.
FIRST LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT ARIZONA'S RISE TO FAME:
Tik Tok users created a dance challenge which set to the song that went viral on the social media platform. Fans from all over the world took part in the challenge, and many of the young market that use Tik Tok then streamed the song adding to its popularity. It resulted in the track being certified double platinum and hitting the Top 4 on Billboard's Hot 100.

Roxanne is the first track by an unsigned, fully independent artist to top the chart since the beginning of 2017 – the earliest date on Spotify's online archive.

Corinne Foxx is a recognised singer, who showcases her talents on the show she co-hosts with her father, Beat Shazam.In her latest viral video, the talented 26-year-old lip-syncs along to a viral Tik Tok singer named Haley Anna (her Tik Tok handle is haleyannasm).
The vocals blew Jamie and viewers far and wide away.

Haley has several 286 thousand followers on Instagram alone and posted the video of Corrine on her Instagram stories with the caption: "Sounds familiar."
