It all started when Lady Gaga's new single Stupid Love was leaked earlier this year.
Fans were excited because it is the singer and performer's first song since 2017's The Cure, so there was a lot of illegal streaming and downloading from an audience starving for new tunes to bop to.
The pirating reached such heights that Lady Gaga – whose birth name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta – posted a tweet asking fans to stop.
But it was too late... The proverbial pop toothpaste was out the tube, and there was no going back.
As a result, the pop star had to scramble to get cover art and a video together much sooner than she had planned.
The video was released shortly afterwards, and it reminded me of The Power Rangers uniting in the desert to fight a big evil villain. But the most important thing was the song.
It harkens back to the songwriter's earlier hits Born This Way, Applause and Bad Romance. A dance hit that hypes listeners up for a fun night of partying. The song's viability is borne out by its debut on the charts.
Stupid Love hit the Billboard Hot 100 chart with an appearance at number 5, marking her first top 10 on the chart since Applause which started at number six in 2013.
The song will be featured on Lady Gaga's forthcoming album, Chromatica which will be released on 10 April 2020.
