Cape Town - Well-known record label Ambitiouz Entertainment recently signed former South African Idols contestant Loyiso Gijana as their artist.

Loyiso was in season 11 of Mzansi Magic’s Idols where he captured souls of many South Africans with his voice but only made it to the top 5 when he was just 16 years old.

After Idols he went on to complete his matric and then later went to study Bachelor of Education at Varsity College.

Speaking to DRUM about his return to music, Loyiso said, “When you’re hungry for something else, it’s hard to focus on anything else besides your dream.”

Loyiso said that he questioned himself a lot about what he was doing while he was in Varsity as teaching was not his dream job because he wanted to sing.

He continued to tell us about the day he received a call from Ambitiouz Entertainment to sign him as their new artist.

“I was in class literally in class having a lecture. My phone rings and I answer it while in class and the person on the phone said ‘it’s Ambitiouz Entertainment’, I literally dropped because I couldn’t believe it was Ambitiouz. So I rushed out class while everyone was looking at me and we spoke. They said they were interested in my music and after that phone call I cried and even now I still get emotional when I talk about that day. So afterwards I called my mom and told her what’s happening.”

Loyiso has since dropped out of school and is now perusing his music career full time.

Even after Idols Loyiso continued to do covers which he posted on YouTube and his social media pages.

His recent cover of Amablesser by Mlindo & DJ Maphorisa  had over 60 000 views on YouTube and over 90 000 views on Twitter while his Idols SA top 16 performance still ranks high with over 250 000 views on YouTube.
