Comic, actor and film maker Kagiso Lediga cohosted SABC3’s Bantu Hour, a Saturday Night Live-esque variety show in 2015 with Bra Hugh. The two spent many hours together filming, collaborating and, most importantly, having fun. Lediga tells #Trending:
“[Bantu Hour] was one of those things where you stand back and go ‘I got to do that’. Bra Hugh had been on the most gripping show on TV in the 60s so he was very comfortable in front of the camera. It was very important for us for the show not to feel like work – that it felt as fun as possible."
Lediga adds: "The shoots took long because he was always having fun and running commentary. Journalists and corporate people, when they had meetings with us, and as soon as they were gone, he’d go ‘Jesus, what an uptight motherf***er!’ But he was the guy who could dance anyone under the table."
"He had great vitality, up until the end. He was young at heart. There are those people who get old in their twenties and thirties, and then there are those people who’s bodies get old but they’re still the same guy inside. They’re still going at the world with the same fervour and energy.”
