Johannesburg - Kanye West believes being diagnosed with a mental disorder is his superpower.

The rapper made the proclamation during an interview with Big Boy TV at his listening party in Wyoming on Friday.

In the chat, the father-of-three and Kim Kardashian’s husband, confirms he was diagnosed with the disorder last year, even though he didn’t specify what it is.

“I had never been diagnosed 'til I was like 39 years old," he said in the interview, “diagnosed with a mental condition. I think everybody got something but, like I said on the album, it's not a disability, it's a superpower.”

Despite not speaking about the condition during the interview, the 40-year-old confirmed he was bipolar with the cover of his new album, where he writes, “I hate being bipolar it’s awesome.”

Kanye adds that working on his eighth studio album, Ye, helped him shine a spotlight on an issue that many people suffer with.

“Think about people that have mental issues that are not Kanye West,” he said, “that can't go and make that and make it feel like it’s all good. Think about somebody that does exactly what I did at TMZ and they just do that at work, but then Tuesday morning they come in, they lost their job and they can't go back and make that. That's why God put that on me at age 40."

The build-up to the release of his album was overshadowed by his controversial interview on TMZ where he claimed that ‘slavery was a choice.’

Following the backlash to his comments, Kanye admits he “completely redid the album” and even “took out a bar” referencing the topic because “it was just too sensitive.”

Despite the negative press around his latest offering, the rapper currently holds the No. 1 spot on the U.S. iTunes chart.
