Kanye West's record contract bans him from retiring

Cape Town - According to a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles, Kanye West is legally prevented from retiring under the terms of his record contract with his record label EMI.

Sky News reports that Kanye's argument is that the deal is "lopsided" as well as the claim that he has been underpaid.

According to The Hollywood Reporter Kanye is citing California Labor Code section 2855, which stipulates that "personal service contracts" cannot exceed a period of seven years.

According to court documents EMI and the performer have worked together since 2003, more than double the maximum period the law allows.
