Cape Town - Kelly Rowland finally addresses the elephant in the room in a new behind-the-scenes video showing the former Destiny’s Child star working on her new EP, The Kelly Rowland Edition.

When the 38-year-old was asked what concepts and direction she had in mind for the new project, Kelly opened up about living in Beyoncé’s shadow, theshaderoom.com reports.

"The elephant in the room for me has always been [being seen as] second best," she said.

"That’s actually the first time I’ve said that out loud."

In 2013, the singer briefly addressed the issue when she released controversial song Dirty Laundry in which she revealed she and Bey had a brief fallout, madamenoire reports.

The singer-songwriter said that despite being viewed as not as good as her bestie and it causing a wobble in their friendship for a while, their bond has grown stronger because of the love and support they show each other.

"I think the people wanted those stories for years, and that’s just so sad on them because it’s not like that," she said.

"It’s so crazy, and I just think it’s so sad that we live in a world where people don’t want to see women get along and encourage and empower each other, and that’s what [Beyoncé and I] do for each other."
