Mac Miller's alleged drug dealer arrested and charged in connection with rapper's death

Cape Town – According to court documents filed in California, a 28-year-old Los Angeles man has been arrested and charged in connection with Mac Miller's death.

The court documents were filed on Wednesday and Mac died in September 2018. The 26-year-old was found at his home in Studio City, California. He once performed at South Africa's Rocking the Daisies Festival in 2016. 

The court documents name Cameron James Pettit and alleged he provided the rapper (who was born Malcolm James McCormick) with counterfeit oxycodone pills that contained fentanyl two days before his overdose.

According to WebMD, "Fentanyl belongs to a class of drugs known as opioid (narcotic) analgesics. It works in the brain to change how your body feels and responds to pain."

CNN says that the drug is deadly: "It is 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine and 30 to 50 times more potent than heroin. Just a quarter of a milligram - 0.25 milligrams - can kill you."

According to Buzzfeed News, the alleged drug dealer is being charged with "one count of distribution of a controlled substance and faces a statutory maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison".

The court documents also show that Cameron James Pettit sent social media messages to friends after Mac's death, saying, "Most likely, I will die in jail."
