Mandy Moore is back to making music, and it reminded us that she was a pop star at 15

Cape Town – The world of music has changed a lot since This Is Us star, Mandy Moore last released an album in 2009.

The Black Eyed Peas and Lady Gaga were soaring high on Billboard's Hot 100 charts, when the multitalented star's album was titled, Amanda Leigh.

The music was influenced by three of Mandy's favourite singers, Paul McCartney, Joni Mitchell and Todd Rundgren.

According to the singer – who burst onto the scene with the poptastic song, Candy, when she was 15 – said of that album: "The music is all a reflection of me now, not somebody else's choices."

Candy, contrastingly was very much in keeping with the pop trends of the day set by stars like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.

The video, full of bright colours, introduced Mandy to the world with an energetic bang.

Now, for the first time in 11 years, Mandy will release a new album titled Silver Landings that is coming out on 6 March via Verve Forecast.

The lead single is titled Save a Little For Yourself, and it sounds like a catchy folk hit.

Mandy Moore said of the new song in a statement: "Sometimes writing a song feels like giving myself the advice I know I need the most and it's often the hardest to heed. It makes the song almost a mantra of sorts — something I know I'll continue learning because it bears repeating."

She went on: "Save a Little for Yourself is sort of the other half of a love song that we don't always talk about or acknowledge. Sure, we should open ourselves up, let people in and love them as wholly as possible but none of that carries any water if we're not taking care of ourselves first and foremost. It might not be as romantic, but it's an equally important part of the equation."
