Johannesburg - Mariah Carey has filed for a lawsuit against her former assistant, Lianna Azarian.

According to TMZ, the singer hired Lianna in March 2015 as her Executive Assistant. Mariah claims that her assistant was secretly taking embarrassing videos of her and threatened to release them unless she paid her $8 million (R109 Million).

Court documents obtained by People Magazine, state that the Obsessed hitmaker is suing Lianna for breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, extortion and invasion of privacy and she is seeking damages for $3,000,000 (R41 Million).

Lianne had signed a non-disclosure agreement. It is also alleged that Lianne also known as Shakhnazarian said she "would sell the video for a profit and buy herself a home" if Carey fired her, according to E!Online.

"This new year welcomes Mariah's continued efforts to clean the trash from her life. According to a Complaint filed today in California, an executive assistant employed in 2015 to help with business and personal matters, turned out to be a grifter and extortionist," Mariah’s team said in a statement.

Lianne also allegedly hired a lawyer after she was fired in 2017. She "demanded millions of dollars and refused to return the evidence. Mariah’s lawsuit against Lianne also claims that the former assistant made regular purchases for her personal benefits with credit cards provided by Mariah.

Mariah’s counsel said that they were "left with no alternative because Azarian refuses to return all versions of the criminal videos."
