Meet the founder of WoodCrock: A local festival celebrating its 12th year

Cape Town – It’s almost time for local festival WoodCrock 12 to kick off for a weekend long celebration in Nelspruit.

Hosted at the famous Blue Moon venue, WoodCrock was founded by a well-known music lover, soundman and frontman in the SA music industry.

Meet Conrad Jamneck. He sings and entertains as the frontman of Fake Leather Blues Band, he’s an excellent soundman and he organises festivals.

We chat to him about his very own festival, WoodCrock, and how it all came about.

Check it out below:

How and when did WoodCrock start out? Where did the name come from?

Pretoria had one of the most insane venues in SA ever! It was called The Nile Crocodile. So 13 years ago on my 30th birthday I decided to combine my love for Woodstock 69 with the love for my favourite venue, Nile Crocodile… and WoodCrock was born!

This will be the second year that it will be held at Blue Moon… why Blue Moon and what can people expect from this year’s bash?

Why Blue Moon? Blue Moon has a soul, Blue Moon speaks to you, Blue Moon has a million memories she wants to share with you! The set up, the surroundings...the history, the people...it is simply magic!

There will be two stages, a main stage and a late night party stage. More than 20 bands, DJ's, comedians...even a theatre piece! On the main stage you will enjoy the likes of The Black Cat Bones (Blue Moon Legends), the return of Soil 7t7 and Cutting Jade. Nelspruit favourites, Klopjag! Songs so beautiful it will make you never want to leave… Andra will be there.

All the way from Cape Town the towering kings, Crimson House will totally blow your mind. After Robot and L.A. Cobra will set the nights on fire. A man with a love for Blue Moon that can be compared to none, Jack Parow will be there on the Friday evening making you jump and jump and jump! Our Brothers Tidal Waves and Zionruts Family will bring the Reggae...Nelspruit locals Face Jackson will make their WoodCrock debut. The Lectric Monks are one of my new favourites, busy with their new album, and always busy entertaining...you will not stop moving...the list goes on. With Klipdrift and Windhoek on board this is going to be crazy!

What has been a highlight for you over the past 11 years of WoodCrock?

I must say WoodCrock 4 and 5 was very special. We did two Nile Crocodile reunions, saw lots of old friendly faces, saw amazing bands like ShadowLord, Hokum and and and...and it was held in beautiful Silverton, where I spent my High School years!

WoodCrock 9 with Wat Kyk Jy was also insane...well with bra Gifford what isn't!!!? But by far the best were the WoodCrocks held in Hatfield at Cool Runnings. They were simply ridiculous! Ok...so clearly you can see they are all special!

What is the most challenging part of putting together such a big event?

Staying sober.

Which band are you looking forward to most to see live at this year’s event?

All of them...each and every single one of them...I honestly love these people.
