Johannesburg - Fans will have to wait a little while longer for Nicki Minaj’s fourth studio album after the rapper pushed back the release date for Queen.

The album, which Nicki described during an interview on Beats 1 radio as the "best album I've ever, ever, ever created in my life," was due to drop on 15 June but will now be released on 10 August 2018.

During an Instagram Live session on Thursday, the 35-year-old said the reason for the postponement is down to her search for perfectionism. "Trust me, it's the better choice.”

She also added that her record label gave her permission to change the date, “I love my label and I’m happy that I’ve always been blessed to have the freedom and the creativity to do what I want when I want, how I want it.”

With Royal euphoria sweeping the globe, the Anaconda hit maker added that her album is inspired by the late Princess Diana.

Posting a video from Diana’s interview with BBC1 Panorama, Nicki said the Princess of Wales’ ability to stay strong was the reason she is inspired by her.

“Why is she strong? Where does she get it from?” she captioned the post. “Where is she going to use it? #WhyDoThePublicStillSupportHer God bless this woman’s legacy and every woman who’s ever felt like this.”

Princess Diana died in 1997, aged 36, in an accident after her car was followed by a member of the paparazzi.

Queen will be Nicki’s first studio album since 2014's The Pinkprint.

She has already released two songs off the album, Barbie Tingz and Chun Li.
