Johannesburg - On Saturday, 24 March, Kimberley-born multi-media visual artist Trevor Stuurman will grace the stage at the Absolut One Source Live Festival in Johannesburg #BeAbsolut. Click here to read more about the movement.
The local entertainer will perform alongside four other creative revolutionaries at the event, namely: Khuli Chana, Osborne Macharia, Sho Madjozi and Fabrice Monteiro at the festival which is a part of a series of events.
Each one of the ‘Five Creative Revolutionaries’ has their own super hero alter-ego and Trevor’s is The Explorer.
It was also announced last week that influential South African band Bongo Maffin would be reuniting for the special event in Johannesburg.
Ahead of the hotly anticipated gathering Trevor spoke to us about African art, One Source Live and a lot more.

What does African Art and African creativity mean to you?
African Art and creativity gives me a weapon to equip and advance myself with. I am able to share and express how I view the world and how I view myself.
Tell us about the OSL movement and what your part is in it?
OSL is a game changing movement within the creative space. It allows people to re-imagine who they are. Creatives can be inspired and can unite in order to change the way the world views and consumes our art.
What can we expect from you on Saturday, 24 March:
A Multi-Dimensional installation and elevation of my creativity.
Your role as superhero / revolutionary?:
I am The Explorer and my magic lantern has the power to change the way people see things. I cast the light onto subjects that have traditionally been overlooked. Once the light illuminates them they can transform and move forward.
Your life in five words?
An endless journey of discovery.
Being “Absolute” and what it means:
I am absolutely pro-African; I absolutely love where I come from.
Your African art hero?
Mary Sibande. Her story is revolutionary and in a sense I could relate to it. I love her character Sophie who transformed from domestic worker to superhero and who now lives in galleries where she would traditionally have been a cleaner.
About taking African Arts to the world:
The internet has allowed us to transport and to narrate our stories so much easier. It’s very empowering to see how people react and resonate to your work.
