Paul McCartney still dreams about playing in a band with John Lennon

Cape Town – Paul McCartney spoke to The Late Show host Stephen Colbert, last week while promoting his new children's book, Hey Grandude!

In the relaxed chat, the world-famous musician spoke about his career and his dreams about his former Beatles band member John Lennon.

The 77-year-old said: "I dream about [Lennon]. The thing is when you've had a relationship like that for so long, such a deep relationship. I love it when people revisit you in your dreams."He added: "I often have band dreams and they're crazy… I'm often with John, just talking about doing something, and I come to get my Hofner bass, ready to play, and it's covered in sticky tape. You know, dreams! I'm picking all this stuff off trying to talk to him."

As fans of the British quartet know, Paul's famous song, Yesterday came from a dream.

According to The Economist, the chord sequence for Yesterday came to the Grammy Award-winner in a dream and it was so faultless that as he scribbled it down at his piano on an envelope, even though he was sure he had pinched it from elsewhere.

According to the Telegraph, Paul once said: "I woke up with a lovely tune in my head. I thought, 'That's great, I wonder what that is?' There was an upright piano next to me, to the right of the bed by the window. I got out of bed, sat at the piano, found G, found F sharp minor 7th –, and that leads you through then to B to E minor, and finally, back to E. It all leads forward logically. I liked the melody a lot, but because I'd dreamed it, I couldn't believe I'd written it. I thought, 'No, I've never written like this before.' But I had the tune, which was the most magic thing."

Who knows, maybe one-night Paul will dream of a new song with John?
