R Kelly pleads 'not guilty' to bribery in connection with illegal marriage to Aaliyah

Cape Town – Imprisoned singer R. Kelly has pleaded not guilty to a new federal charge accusing him of bribing an Illinois government employee in connection to his marriage to Aaliyah.

Earlier this year it was uncovered that he allegedly bribed an official to officiate his marriage to late R&B singer Aaliyah in 1994, according to E! News. The deceased singer was only 15 years old when Kelly (27 at the time) allegedly handed over fake identification to wed her. The illegal marriage between the two was annulled in February 1995.

On Wednesday, R. Kelly appeared in New York City courtroom remotely from Chicago, where he remains incarcerated – on charges including child pornography and enticement of a minor – and entered a not guilty plea on the recent racketeering charge brought forward earlier this month, according to People.
