Sneak peek: Here’s what you can expect at Rocking the Daisies 2017

Cape Town – Can you feel it? It is here.

The time has come for Rocking the Daisies 2017 and Channel24 got an inside scoop of what to expect at this year’s festival.

Eliav Vanunu, production and site manager for the Rocking the Daisies 2017, took a few minutes from his busy schedule to share some deets on this year’s event.

“The festival grounds will look different this year to previous years. We’re going to have four big stages (main stage, hip hop, electro and the beach stage) with a variety of pop-up entertainment that will change every few hours. It will be like small pockets of entertainment that will keep changing.

“The idea is that you will randomly bump into these experiences that you won’t even find on the festival map,” Eliav tells Channel24.

George Avakian, managing director of Steyn Entertainment, earlier this year echoed the same sentiment during a sitdown interview with Channel24.

“We want it to be an immersive experience for the fans and tell a story on every stage. The stages won’t be in isolation but rather connect together to ensure that overall the audience enjoy every minute,” George said.

Fans should also be on the lookout for the live performance art spread out over the festival grounds as well as the fresh new look and design of the bars.

“Decoration, look and feel was very important this year. We even took a much closer look at the food trucks we bring in and exactly what we wanted to offer this year. And of course this is all done while being green and environmentally friendly. Daisies, as with previous years, will put a lot of emphasis on waste management and aim to be an even cleaner festival than before,” Eliav told Channel24.

The mammoth task of putting everything together rests on the shoulders of Eliav and fellow production and site manager Douglas Rex Butler as well as a talented crew who’ve been busy on the grounds of Cloof Wine Estate for the last two weeks. The 25 000 tickets available for Rocking the Diasies sold out weeks before, making this South Africa’s biggest outdoor gathering.

But work on the layout and setup of the festival started in January already when a 3D rendering of the festival grounds was put together. “We locked ourselves up for three months and figured it out bit for bit. We broke it down and looked at every pillar. We had to create a language to be able to not only communicate with all the role-players but also to carry over the vision. We basically created a virtual world first and then took it from there. Once that was all set up we could start creating the bigger picture,” Eliav said.

According to him it will take about two days to break everything down and hand the farm back over to its owners. After that it’s time to debrief and look at how everything went down before taking a short break and kicking off planning for Daisies 2018.

Rocking the Daisies will take place from 5 to 8 October at Cloof Wine Estate just outside Darling in the Western Cape. If you pre-collected your wristband or are an Early Bird/Phase 1 ticket holder you will be allowed access into Rocking the Daisies 2017 from 08:00 on Thursday - those who haven't pre-collected will only be allowed in from 12:00.
